ResMed and Respironics have always played an important role as the great field of sleep apnea. Bad news for us, the patient, because this kind of duopoly can not be good for competition and innovation, the two forces that we see as critical for these devices moving forward in terms of usability and comfort for patients . So we were pleased to see that Fisher & Paykel, a longtime participant in the market for sleep apnea devices, but in our opinion, such a thing as an ugly stepchild RespironicsResMed has and has quietly and without much fanfare a device that could very well represent the most innovative steps forward again. Fisher & Paykel HC254 Series 200 is a SleepStyleTM was happening in the market by the FDA in September 2008. The machine has a lot of nice bells and whistles, with two feet as particularly innovative:

SensAwake Technology
Just like Santa knows this machine when you're sleeping and knows when you are awake. The result: you do not need to be"Take" good for God's sake, only the high pressure is another deal during wakefulness. The pressure is not necessary if you are awake and can prevent sleep for a few people. This machine algorithm recognizes the type of breathing you do when you are awake and reduces the pressure supplied to the lowest level at this time more comfortable. Similarly, the algorithm detects the type of breathing you do when you sleep, and increases the pressureaccordingly. Other machines are trying to provide the complaints of high pressure in the waking state, providing a function of "ramp", solves the user clicks on a button to increase the pressure gradually driven demands. But this is a crude solution as Fisher & Paykel SensAwake is the technology that does the work for you, and keeps the pressure he needs to sleep until they "know" you. The last thing we need is something else to worry about with the keys and, while we try to get someClose your eyes.

SmartStick Technology
How many machines and ResMed Respironics, the HC254-data-capable and distinguished treatment efficacy, including duration of use, AHI, leak and pressure. Unlike most of ResMed and Respironics machines, but the HC254 these data shows a "smart cane" on the back of the device can be removed, or any other computer via the USB port. Most machines ResMed and Respironics collect data on a smart card of a type thatnot only requires the purchase of additional software, but also a card reader with the particular brand of smart card ResMed and Respironics have developed. The result is that users actually go through unnatural acts on their detailed usage data (for example, there are no data available on the screens on the devices themselves) have. Unfortunately, even though in theory the USB allows easier access to data, from the date of this publication, Fisher & PaykelPerformanceMaximizer seems the sale of software for the HC254, doctors, patients have become the tree, as usual, with regard to the possibility of their detailed compliance data means to restrict access. There may be confused about this, and welcome to all of our users or the F & P itself, provide a link to a software vendor that offers software.

Completion
We will continue to keep an eye on Fisher & Paykel, offering to market devices for the treatment ofSleep apnea, patients give us innovative alternatives to products covered by the big boys, ResMed and Respironics.
